Timing is a funny thing. We all like to think we have control over our lives, and I sincerely think we do in some ways…But in many ways, I think we’re completely at the mercy of chaos.
The past week has been pretty tough. My boyfriend’s absence, originally scheduled from Tuesday night until Friday night, was extended when he had to fly out to Texas for a family emergency on Saturday morning after being home for a mere 9 hours. Suffice it to say, it was a very bittersweet Mother’s Day for his mom and her mother. Sweet because they were all together, bitter because of the reason that brought them there.
I had planned to write an entry about the feast I made for my own mom, but as I haven’t had the time or emotional energy to get everything together, I leave you with a photo chronicle of the past week or two:
The kitchen in my new apartment! Gas stove! Yessssss
A beautiful day at the Dollar Day races, which led to….
Me winning $15 on the first race (1st 2nd 3rd: 5, 1, and 2!), which led to…..
A $15 sun burn. Long live the Livestrong tan line.
Searing the Cinco de Mayo Carnitas….
A very lucky boyfriend found this waiting for him on Friday night when he returned from Anaheim
Previews of my Mother’s Day feast. Note to self: next time, don’t let Dad grill the broccolini.
Last night, T-Man returned (though how temporary his presence is is yet to be seen) and we had a lovely date at Ten 22 in Old Sacramento. After bruschetta and flank steaks, we split the amazing Deconstructed Banana Split. (Har har!)
Brûlée’d bananas, topped with a slice of pineapple, banana custard, deep fried ice cream with a candied corn flake crust…and, of course, whipped cream and a cherry on top. Oh, and butterscotch, strawberry, and chocolate sauces. *dies*
Here’s to a better 7 days than the previous. I hope you all had a great Mother’s Day! Please keep your thoughts and prayers with my boyfriend and his wonderful family.
